Insects/Bugs/Bees/Butterflies - Admirable Grasshopper
Class:Insecta Order:Orthoptera Family:Acrididae Genus:Syrbula

Admirable Grasshopper (Syrbula admirabilis). These grasshoppers are found all over Missouri and are common in surrounding states. They are usually found in grassy areas. These insects are sexually dichromatic as well as sexually dimorphic. This means that the males and females are both different colors and different sizes. The males tend to be black, brown and smaller than the larger, green females. Another interesting note is that though the males are successful fliers, the females are weaker and prefer to get around by hopping. Photographed this short-horned grasshopper in August.
