Insects/Bugs/Bees/Butterflies - Blue Dasher
Class:Insecta Order:Odonata Family:Libellulidae Genus:Pachydiplax

Blue Dasher, Pachydiplax longipennis. Beautiful, Skimmer Dragonfly. Common throughout the United States, also known as the Blue Pirate. The males become blue with age, even developing blue eyes. The females have yellow stripes on the abdomen and brown/red eyes and only turn bluish in older age. Found these Blue Dashers at Truman Lake and Wilderness Wetlands. It's possible that there are one or two Great Blue Skimmers mixed in this batch of photos.
