Insects/Bugs/Bees/Butterflies - Blue-winged Wasp
Class:Insecta Order:Hymenoptera Family:Scoliidae Genus:Scolia

Blue-winged Wasp, Scolia dubia. This colorful wasp has a red belly with two yellow spot and lovely dark blue wings. The blue-winged wasp likes to feed on the commonly troublesome Japanese Beetle and the June Beetle. They play an important role in population control of these beetles. I photographed this Blue-winged Wasp in Leawood in early September.
