Insects/Bugs/Bees/Butterflies - Ants - Carpenter Ant
Class:Insecta Order:Hymenoptera Family:Formicidae Genus:Camponotus

Carpenter Ant, Camponotus, several species. Large ants that hollow out and build nests in wood. Unlike termites, they do not eat the wood. The passageways they build are called galleries. When they burrow they leave behind a sawdust called frass. There is so much to learn about these insects.... I saw this Carpenter Ant dragging a Wolf Spider up an Elm tree in June.

All species pages are currently being updated with more useful descriptions and information.
