Insects/Bugs/Bees/Butterflies - Robber Fly - Giant Robber Fly - Promachus bastardii
Class:Insecta Order:Diptera Family:Asilidae Genus:Promachus

Bumbled on my first False Bee-Killer in late July. I was in pursuit of a small black butterfly that I had never seen before. He landed on a Loosestrife stalk and when I was focusing the camera I also saw this beautiful beast a few inches away. Who to focus on? I checked my settings, whooshed the camera back in position just in time to get one bad shot before they both split. Got a few more sessions with the Giant Robber Fly but the results were unsatisfactory. He even hung out in the same small area all day giving me mutliple opportunities.

All species pages are currently being updated with more useful descriptions and information.
